Performance Hoof Care Clinic
Level 1: Introductory to Barefoot Trimming
held on Sunday 27th May 2012,Taradale (Vic)
with Dr Melanie Quick
Equine Vet and Chiropractor
This trimming clinic is unique because it is based on 7 years of veterinary research through clinical studies held all across Australia to identify why performance horses are going lame and developing bone and tendon issues.
Learn how to improve your horses's hoof health and function for optimum performance, preventing tendon, joint and associated back problems
Dr Melanie Quick has been a farrier for over 18 years, an Equine vet focussing on lameness for over 16 years, and an animal Chiropractor for the past 6 years.
She has reviewed over 12,000 horses (48,000 hooves) from a gait and foot perspective since 2004, and mentors half a dozen professional Trimmers and Farriers, whom combined trim on average 1200 horses a month.
Melanie trained and rode successfully to Grand Prix dressage on a young Warmblood who developed Navicular disease while she was shod. It was this unsoundness which prompted Melanie to investigate both shod and unshod horses and Brumbies all over Australia. With Melanie's unique trimming method her horse became sound and moved with freedom and regularity.
Melanie is passionate about promoting equine soundess and teaches owners the skills to improve and preserve their horses's hoof health for optimum performance.
The trimming technique maximises hoof performance, is quick and simple to learn and you will save money in the long term.
The clinic aims to help you:

- Study wild Australian Brumby hooves and see how nature intended the hoof to work
- Understanding what to trim and why - integral for achieving soundness and optimum hoof function
